Nowadays, most people who are interested in raising rays usually kick off by purchasing their fry and trying petting them with many reasons, for example, they want to see their development from the early stages. Apart from this, there are other factors which play quite important roles, such as price. Mostly, the same grade of small fish is at a moderate price compared to the medium and large ones, obviously.

Comparing to the small fish, the factors that make the price of large fish get higher are the age, strength, and mating period where they are more ready to give a birth.

Buying small fish

Each farm has different conditions for selling. Some farms may fix the age of fry, for example, the farm will sell the fry if they are more than 1-2 months old only. Some may sell the fry according to their size, for instance, they begin to sell more than 5.5 inches of fry. Some places may start to sell the fry when they can catch tiny shrimps for food by themselves no matter how old they are or which sizes they are. It’s because being able to find food by themselves shows their strength and the capacity of self-caring.

However, the reason why the farms define these rules is that they want all fry to be sold with readiness and strength and to be carried to customers’ hands safely.

Personally

When I select a fish, I will select the strong one with fleshy body shape and swims vigorously. It needs to look healthy and active, and the most important thing is that its skin pattern must satisfy me. Moreover, it will be more excellent if I can see its parents because I can make sure that the fish is born to these parents, not to others fishes.

To sum up

The size may not be the most important. What’s really important is that we need to select the fish which satisfy us and are appropriate with our budget.  Their skin pattern must suit our taste, and their health needs to be in a good condition. Additionally, if we see their parents, it’s gonna be so awesome!

I hope that the story today will be helpful for you more or less, and wish you happiness for selecting your fish.
